Speaking to Marca, Alvarez declined to entertain the rumours and emphasised that he remains focused on his responsibilities at Atletico Madrid.
“I am very calm,” Alvarez said when asked about the speculation. “There are always rumours, but I try to stay focused on what I have to do, which is to play and help the team. These things are part of football and don’t bother me.”

Alvarez noted that Atletico’s squad, strengthened significantly over the past transfer windows, is capable of competing at the highest level. He expressed confidence that the team can continue progressing.
“We’re in a position to compete with anyone,” he said. “The club has been growing a lot. We’ve added many high-quality players, and looking ahead, I think the club still has room for improvement.”
The Argentine has contributed 11 goals across La Liga and the Champions League this season, helping Atletico maintain their push for domestic and European success. Simeone’s side currently sit fourth in La Liga and occupy an automatic qualification position in the Champions League league phase.
Adapting to Simeone’s Style
Alvarez highlighted the influence of Diego Simeone in his development, describing the manager’s intensity as a defining aspect of his work environment. He explained that the demands placed on forwards in Simeone’s system align well with his skill set, shaped by his experiences under Marcelo Gallardo at River Plate and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
“He’s very passionate and focused on work,” Alvarez said of Simeone. “His mentality is that if you work hard, the results will come. The way he lives football resonates with all the players.”
Alvarez also drew comparisons between Simeone and Guardiola, noting similarities in mentality but clear differences in tactical approach.
“They both have a winning mentality,” he said. “But each has their own style of how they see football and how they approach matches.”
Future Remains Focused on Atletico Madrid
Despite transfer speculation, Alvarez reiterated that his attention remains on contributing to Atletico’s objectives this season. Barcelona’s reported interest has not altered his outlook, and the forward stated that his priority is performing consistently for Simeone’s team.
For now, there is no indication of active negotiations, and Alvarez remains committed to Atletico as they continue their pursuit of silverware.
